Reds take third straight, Simon soars to seventh win

(FOX19) -

The Reds won a third straight and took three of four from the Diamondbacks with a 4-3 win Sunday afternoon.

Cincinnati (26-29) pounded four solo home runs, while Alfredo Simon gave up just three earned runs in his seventh win.

"You fight to win series and get on a roll, " said Reds manager Bryan Price. "We're heading in a nice direction. We're getting a nice supply with the four solo homers."
Simon (7-3) gave up all three earned runs in the fourth inning, but battled back allowing seven hits and striking out four in 6 1/3 innings.

"He had to battle," said Price. "Somehow Alfredo kept himself in the game and gave us a chance to win the game."
Sam LeCure, Jonathan Broxton and Aroldis Chapman carried the final 2 2/3 innings for the Reds. The bullpen collectively gave up two hits and struck out four. Chapman hit 103 miles per hour on the radar gun and fanned two Diamondbacks in
his seventh save. Bryan Price said he's been impressed with the bullpen.
"Early in the year, the starters were so efficient, not many of those guys were getting work. Broxton, Chapman and Hoover are pitching a lot more. And they're a lot more sharp because of it," said Price.
Billy Hamilton sat out Sunday with soreness in his right elbow. Zack Cozart, Todd Frazier, Ryan Ludwick and Chris Heisey each accounted for solo home runs.

The Reds end the road trip out west with a 4-3 record. Cincinnati now returns to Great American Ball Park for a ten-game home stand beginning with the Giants on Tuesday.
