LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

A Liberty Township teenager accused of hatching a plot to kill his parents by setting fire to his home pleaded guilty Monday morning in court.

Mitchell Paul Simon, 17, was found competent to stand trial in March. He was charged with two counts of attempted aggravated murder and one count of aggravated arson after deputies said he tied his parents' bedroom door shut, started a fire outside their door and took off in his dad's car.

Authorities said Simon's father jumped from the second story window to escape, breaking both of his legs. His mother escaped with the help of Liberty Township fire crews and deputies.

Officers said the couple thought their 16-year-old son was still inside the home. The Lakota West student was tracked down a short time later by authorities.

Simon will be sentenced on attempted murder charges Wednesday at 1 p.m.
