TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A Toledo father accused of murdering his 2-year-old child faced a judge for the first time Thursday morning.

On Monday, Toledo Fire & Rescue responded to a 911 call that Dalano Oliver was unresponsive. At the time, 21-year-old Samuel Oliver told a neighbor his son was crawling around and had a hard time catching his breath, so he called 911.

The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Oliver has been charged with aggravated murder.

According to a Toledo Police affidavit posted to the Toledo Municipal Court website, officers say Oliver admitted to beating his son by hitting him in the head and body. The Lucas County coroner says those injuries led to the child's death.

One neighbor says she saw Oliver lose his temper with one of his children a couple weeks ago.

"I heard him talking to it, screaming and stuff, and I thought, 'Well, you know, I should say something, but I listened, and he calmed down, and everything was fine, so I stayed at my place," said neighbor Deb Swartz.

In court Thursday, the judge set Oliver's bond at $1 million with no 10 percent. He is scheduled to appear in court next week.

After the hearing, one member of Oliver's family got hysterical and was ushered out of the courtroom.

Dalano lived in Chicago with his mother. His father, Oliver, brought him to Toledo on a bus about a week ago.
