$2 million granted to replace bridge spanning New Hanover and Pender Counties

NEW HANOVER/PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

The North Carolina Department of Transportation will be using $2 million to replace the bridge on Holly Shelter/Island Creek Road between Castle Hayne and Hampstead.

The old bridge, built in 1951, is no longer considered structurally sound and will replaced by a new bridge that will be able to handle larger loads.

Replacement of the bridge can begin as early as June 30 according to the NCDOT with completion scheduled to be completed November 24. Crews will continue to add landscaping elements around the bridge with a final completion date of November 1, 2017.
