The Americans with a special operations unit were reportedly ambushed by the Taliban in southern Afghanistan. They were hit by a NATO air strike called into help them, U.S. defense officials said.
Helton has served with the United States Army since 2010 and specialized in handling explosives, according to his Facebook page.
The Department of Justice said in a statement that they are looking into the incident and that thoughts and prayers are with the families of the fallen.
