GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville police are warning the public after a woman was seriously injured in a cat attack on Sunday.

Animal Control said the woman was attacked by the cat, which they described the cat as a slightly larger in size, medium haired, orange tabby, as she was walking by it on Phillips Lane off Augusta Street.

The victim, Connie Pride, told FOX Carolina the cat has been a "menace" in the neighborhood because of its aggressive nature.

Pride said she heard growling outside her door on Sunday before she was attacked.

"I moved my foot trying to shoo it away and it turned around, took a hold of my foot and bit in to a major vein in my foot and basically just mauled my leg," Pride said,

She said she had deep cuts on her legs from the claws and the cat hit a vein when it bit, which caused profuse bleeding.

Animal Control advised people to not approach stray cats or dogs. Until the cat is caught, animal control said they will not know if it has rabies.

They said rabies shots that may be needed after being bitten can cost hundreds of dollars.

Anyone who has seen the cat or knows who the cat may belong to is asked to call Greenville Animal Control at 864-271-5333.
