Lawmakers caution Dr. Oz on weight loss tips

Under pressure from Congress, Dr. Mehmet Oz appeared before the Senate's consumer protection panel Tuesday and was scolded by Chairman Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., for claims he made about weight-loss aids on his TV show, "The Dr. Oz Show."

Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon, acknowledged that his language about green coffee and other supplements has been "flowery" and promised to publish a list of specific products he thinks can help America shed pounds and get healthy - beyond eating less and moving more. On his show, he never endorsed specific companies or brands but more generally praised some health supplements as fat busters.

McCaskill took Oz to task for a 2012 show in which he proclaimed that green coffee bean extract was a "magic weight loss cure for every body type."

"I get that you do a lot of good on your show," McCaskill told Oz, but "I don't get why you need to say this stuff because you know it's not true."

Oz said he believes in the supplements he talks about on his show as short-term crutches and even has his family try them. He said his job on the show is to be a "cheerleader" for his audience, one who offers hope even if that means looking to alternative healing methods and any evidence that might support them.

The celebrity doctor did agree that there's no long-term miracle pill out there without diet and exercise.

Girlfriend sells deployed man's dog, new family reluctant to give him back

Robby Gabbert left his 3-year-old Shiba Inu named "Baxter" with his girlfriend in Colorado when he was deployed last March to Afghanistan, KOAA reports.

His girlfriend, for reasons unknown, sold Baxter on Craigslist.

Once Gabbert's mom and others found out what happened, the story began to spread on social media. Gabbert also posted on Craigslist, which has since been deleted:

"I am currently deployed and my ex sold my dog. I just found out and I am trying to find the people (person) who bought him. I will pay anything to get him back. His name is Baxster and he is an Shiba Inu. I do not have my phone with me. You can email me. The phone number is my mom's she is helping me locate him. If you have any information PLEASE give us a call or an email."

As the story began gaining traction online, a Facebook page was created by strangers in an effort to find the dog. Local news station KOAA joined in on the search.

However, it was discovered this week that Baxter was with a new family now and they don't want to give him back. Gabbert's mother said the new family has children who have become attached to the dog.

According to KOAA, the family has been offered $14,000, and the Colorado Shiba Inu rescue has even stepped in, offering to help them find a new dog.

Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone send message to paparazzi

While dining at a restaurant Tuesday in Manhattan, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield noticed a group of photographers outside.

So, they decided to use the situation to their advantage by raising awareness for good charities.

Here is what both of their cards said:

Emma: "Good morning! We were eating and saw a group of guys with cameras outside. And so we thought, let's try this again. We don't need the attention, but these wonderful organizations do: —>"

Andrew: "www.youthmentoring.org, www.autismspeaks.org (and don't forget) www.wwo.org, www.gildasclubnyc.org. Here's to the stuff that matters. Have a great day!"

The couple did the same thing back in September.
