Reds answer Friday's collapse with 10-run win over Jays

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

After what felt like the most demoralizing loss of the season on Friday, the Reds answered in a big way on Saturday with an 11-1 victory over Toronto.

Mike Leake (5-6) gave the bullpen a much needed break going eight innings strong, striking out six and giving up just one earned run in the win.

"We scored nine runs and got beat yesterday and we come back and score 11 today and, I mean, obviously it's huge for our team to come back and score a lot of runs again," said Leake.

Cincinnati took a 3-0 lead to the third inning when Jay Bruce pounded his seventh home run of the season on a solo shot. The Reds then added four more runs in the fourth inning with runs driven in by Billy Hamilton, Todd Frazier, Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips.

In the seventh, the Reds road to redemption was complete when Devin Mesoraco uncorked a three-run shot, his 12th homer of the year and third straight game leaving the yard.

"I think it speaks a lot to the character of the club," said Reds manager Bryan Price." We didn't talk about it as a team, but we did as a coaching staff that it was a character game.

It was a game we needed to show up and needed to get the taste of (Friday's) loss out of our mouths and move forward and get a win. One thing this clubhouse hasn't done has put their heads down and feel sorry for themselves."

The Reds have touched the plate 53 times in their last six games, averaging just under nine runs a game. Billy Hamilton extended his hitting streak to ten games going 1-for-5 and recorded his 31st stolen base of the season.

Carlos Contreras, recalled from AA Pensacola Saturday, made his major league debut in the ninth allowing zero hits and striking out one batter.
