CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

What was billed as one of the largest world cup parties in the country was held at Fountain Square Sunday evening.

There was standing room only and plenty of enthusiasm.

Chants of "USA, USA, USA" erupted spontaneously as the American team rallied and the crowd just exploded as team USA scored.

FOX19 asked some of the fans why watch they watched the World Cup with a few thousand of your friends and neighbors.

Sam Taylor is from Australia but said he still roots for the USA.

"I don't know this is like the heart of where everyone is going to be and the party's going to be and that's where we're going to smash Portugal and like grind them into a pulp so that's why I want to be here," he said.

Grace Williams of Hyde Park said "it's important to be a supportive citizen of the USA soccer team."

Dan Griffin and his wife Kathy said they just came for the ambience.

"This is the first time we've come down to watch obviously soccer but just to see the people coming back here to the city is really nice for me," he said.

Kathy Griffin said "just the vibe and all the different generations, all different ages and the people are excited to be in Cincinnati again."

What was impressive the most was the passion people have for the game and team USA.

Cincinnati Police reported no serious incidents.

Fountain Square will host another viewing party 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday for the USA-Germany World Cup game.
