Judge grants stay order in IN same sex marriage appeal
INDIANAPOLIS (WAVE) - Late Friday afternoon the U.S. 7th
Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago granted a temporary stay order filed by
Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller.
Zoeller filed the appeal on Wednesday
asking the courts to halt same-sex marriage in Indiana after another judge stuck down the prohibition of same-sex marriages earlier in the week.
U.S. Judge Richard Young of the 7th Circuit Court granted the stay.
Zoeller's spokesman, Bryan Corbin, says the Attorney General's
office has noted the confusion and inconsistency for the public since the
ruling Wednesday, saying most county clerks are issuing marriage licenses to
same sex couples, but a few clerks are not.
It isn't clear what would happen to the gay marriages already
performed if a stay is approved.
