GREEN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A teenager was charged with Reckless Homicide on Monday for allegedly shooting his friend on accident with a stolen handgun in Green Township.
Friends of the victim say two 13-year-old boys were playing with a handgun when one of them accidentally fired the weapon, hitting their friend. Responding officers found the boy with a gunshot wound to the head around 2 p.m. inside the home in the 5500 block of Marie Avenue.
The victim was transported to Mercy West Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Police say investigations revealed the suspect stole the handgun from a Green Township residence and brought it to the victim's house.
The suspect was taken into custody and charged with Reckless Homicide and Theft, according to Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. Both are third degree felony charges.
"Anytime you're dealing with a weapon whether you know it's loaded or not loaded, extreme caution needs to be used," said Sgt. Chris House with Green Township Police. He said responding officers described the suspect to be "distraught" at the scene.
Authorities say it is unclear if the boys knew the handgun was loaded. They are continuing to investigate the incident.
