The fans saw winning fireworks as the Reds beat the Brewers at Great American Ball Park on the 4th of July.

Alfredo Simon tied Adam Wainwright and Zack Greinke for most wins in the National League (11) after allowing just two earned runs and pitching into the eighth inning.

"He was terrific," said Bryan Price of Alfredo Simon. "He was in the zone, got kind of erratic from time to time, but came right back in the zone and made the pitches. He got himself into the eighth inning and he was terrific. The defense really showed up (Friday night)."

Billy Hamilton unlocked a scoreless game with a two-run home run in the third inning. Hamilton, the National League Rookie of the Month for June, now has five home runs this season.

"It was big (because) they are in our division," said Hamilton. "For us to get a win to start the series is great.  You always want to win the first one especially coming off what we had in San Diego…it was a great win today."

The Reds pull within six games of the first place Brewers in the NL Central.

Same two teams continue their three-game series Saturday at GABP.
