(RNN) - The internet just got weird. OK, weirder.

"Basically I'm just making potato salad. I haven't decided what kind yet," wrote Zack "Danger" Brown on the website Kickstarter.

Brown's unambitious effort on the crowd-funding site struck a chord with the online universe since its posting Thursday. It had raised more than $9,300 by Monday afternoon.

"This is amazing," Brown said in a YouTube post Sunday. "When I started this campaign, my secret goal was that we could make $60. In three days, we've made 1000 percent of that - $5,000."

He's not great at math. That's what measuring cups are for.

The guy who studied hard knocks at Denison University, according to his Facebook, pledged at the meager total of $3,000 to rent a party hall, host "the whole internet" and feed it some carbs.

Some of his previous "stretch goals" as the movement began to catch on included a potato salad-making livestream ($1,000) and calling a chef for a better recipe ($300). At $35, Brown promised to "make 4x as much potato salad. I know $40 isn't 4x $10, but you guys have earned it."

Again, math hard.

Backers were offered several perks for donations between $1 and $50. The best one may be that Brown will say each donor's name while he cooks. The total is 1,376 and counting.

But for all the spud aficionados out there expecting a flavor explosion, Brown did provide fair warning.

"It might not be that good. It's my first potato salad," he wrote.

So no complaining, people.
