Reds complete second big comeback of week to win

The Reds erased a four-run late inning deficit to beat the Pirates in the series opener at Great American Ball Park 6-5.

Trailing 5-1, the Reds scored twice in the seventh inning to set up one of the most exciting innings of the season. With two outs in the inning, Devin Mesoraco hit a solo home run to pull the Reds within a run and his teammates then completed the comeback with four consecutive hits to give the Reds the lead.

Ramon Santiago, who finished with three hits, tied the game at five and Brayan Pena gave the Reds the lead with a go-ahead single.

The Reds had not overcome a deficit of greater than two runs until earlier this week when they erased a five run Cubs lead and followed that up with Friday's comeback.

Mat Latos started the game for the Reds and left with lower back spasms after five innings.

The Reds are now 7-2 on the homestand and continue the three game series with Pittsburgh Saturday with a 7:15 p.m. first pitch on FOX19.
