Recount Rebellion

Election official calls recount request frivolous, insulting

Third-party candidates for president say they will file a federal lawsuit today to force a recount of Ohio ballots before returns are certified next week.

One election board director says he may mobilize boards in other counties to resist a recount. Allen County Board of Directions Director Keith Cunningham says county commissioners are starting to understand how much the recount would cost. The Libertarian and Green parties' candidates say they've raised more than 150-thousand dollars to cover the fee charged by the state. But the secretary of state's office says the actual cost will be ten times that amount. Counties must report official vote counts by December third and they're certified on December sixth. The lawsuit says there's not enough time to complete a recount before the Electoral College meets a week later.
