SPRINGDALE, OH (FOX19) -

Cats stuck in trees aren't the only animals needing a fire department rescue. The Springdale Fire Crew proved Monday that animals below ground sometimes need their help too.

Two Springdale firefighters and two police officers rescued six baby ducklings from an underground sewer on Sheraton Lane.

Firefighters used a water can to flush the runaway ducks to the other side of the sewer where they were able to lift them to safety.

An official with the Springdale Fire Department said baby ducks often get stuck in sewers when they follow their mother across the sewer lid and fall in. The official said this is the second time the department has rescued ducklings from this situation in the past two weeks.

A FOX19 NOW viewer snapped photos of the Sheraton lane rescue and the six baby ducks whose lives were saved by Springdale's finest.
