Two people are being questioned by police after an officer was allegedly shot at Tuesday night in Over-the-Rhine.

A Cincinnati Police Officer was investigating an apartment unit in the 1300 block of Walnut Street around 10 p.m. when at least one shot was fired, according to authorities.

The officer was not hit and police indicate the shooting may have been accidental.

"They saw a gun, they heard a gun shot. Just as a precautionary measure it was broadcast as shots fired at officers. We'd rather officers err on the side of caution," said a Cincinnati Police officer on the scene.

Other tenants were inside the building and the complex was placed on lock down, according to police.

Two subjects have been taken into police custody for questioning and no charges have been filed at this time. Authorities said they have also recovered one gun.

The landlord reportedly requested police investigate a unit in the building, which is why officers were there in the first place. Authorities have not said what initially led to that request.
