Police: 75 lose homes to meth-related fire

A Madison couple was charged with arson and meth manufacturing following a fire at the Alta Loma Apartments on Saturday.

About 75 people lost their homes as the blaze ripped through the apartment complex.

According to Metro police, the fire started when a meth lab exploded inside the building.

The fire destroyed eight apartments before Nashville firefighters put it out.

Police arrested Kelly Wakefield, 27, and her boyfriend, 22-year-old Michael Drury.

Both are being held at the Metro jail on $150,000 bond.

The Red Cross has opened an emergency shelter for displaced residents at the Madison Church of Christ.

It was not immediately clear how long the shelter would stay open.

Drury and Wakefield are due in court Thursday.
