CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Drivers heading downtown from the northern Cincinnati suburbs this weekend beware: Interstate 71 south will be closed at Dana Avenue all weekend long.
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced the closure from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.
A posted detour will take drivers west onto the Norwood Lateral to Interstate 75 southbound to avoid the issue.
Crews are working on $80.8 million project to build a new Uptown interchange at I-71 and Martin Luther King Drive. This weekend's work involves demolishing the Conrail bridge.
ODOT said the northbound lanes will also need to be closed at some point for this project, but they have not yet set a date for that work.
The entire project is expected to take about three years, according to a release from ODOT.
If you are planning to head downtown this weekend, plan an alternate route ahead of time.
