NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - The Clark County Sheriff found himself on the other side of the law after a federal grand jury returned an eight count indictment against him. Danny Rodden, 60 of Jeffersonville, is accused of misconduct involving a prostitute. The alleged incidents happened in 2013, but the U.S. Attorney Office for the Southern District of Indiana said the conduct is coming to light now thanks to an informant in a larger investigation.

“The investigation involved prostitution and wire fraud and Mr. Rodden was one of the people alleged to have patronized the prostitute,” said Brad Blackington, the lead prosecutor

Inside the Federal Courthouse library in New Albany, U.S. Attorney Joseph Hogsett announced an eight count indictment against Rodden.

“Seven counts of making a false statement,” began Hogsett, “and one count of counseling the destruction of evidence as part of a federal investigation.”

Hogsett went on to detail that Rodden stood accused of giving a Louisville prostitute official credentials of the Clark County Sheriff's Office and an official agency badge.

“He did so in order that the prostitute could obtain a government employee rate at a hotel across the river in Louisville,” said Hogsett. “It is also alleged in the indictment that Mr. Rodden met the prostitute at that hotel several weeks later and engaged in a sex act with her.”

While the alleged incidents took place in May of 2013, Blackington said the a joint investigation between the FBI, Indiana State Police and US Attorney’s Office into Rodden’s conduct did not launch until two months ago after insight from an informant.

According to the indictment, after being questioned by FBI agents this past May Rodden requested the prostitute "get rid of" the law enforcement credentials and clothing he had given her.

“He was arrested here in the federal building this morning and he was immediately transported to Indianapolis,” said Blackington. “The maximum penalty on the tampering with evidence charge is 30 years.”

Federal prosecutors said the conduct of Rodden would not be tolerated and called his arrest their effort to prioritize public corruption.

“They will be held accountable if they violate the public trust and the public is diminished,” said Hogsett.

Until convicted, Rodden is able to continue working as the Clark County Sheriff.
