The UC Bearcats are the media's pick to win the 2014
American Athletic Conference football championship.
The poll was revealed at the conference's media day in
Newport, RI just a week before the start of fall practice.
"It will be a challenge for me," said head coach Tommy
Tuberville of the pick. "I've, really in 19 years of being a head coach, never
been predicted to win a conference championship. That's one piece of
experience I'll have to go through. I'll have to go back to my Miami days
when I was with Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson, we were always predicted to
be number one. It will be fun. I think it's good for your fans. I
think it will be an awakening for all of our players. They worked hard
The Bearcats received 17 of 30 first place votes. UCF (7)
and Houston (6) also received votes for tops in the conference.
"Of course, we want to go out and win every game and go
undefeated," said quarterback Munchie Legaux. "You know, we've got to aim high.
But, that doesn't happen in one night, it starts in camp."
UC opens the regular season on September 12th
