LSU's Miles addresses Rotary Club before season starts

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - LSU head coach Les Miles talked at the Rotary Club on Wednesday addressing the problems with players off the field and the bigger issue of what to do at quarterback with the Tigers' first practice on Monday.

Athletic Director Joe Alleva introduced the coach at the meeting where Miles gave club members plenty to laugh and think about. After his talk, Miles said it's too early to decide how to use Freshman Brandon Harris and Sophomore Anthony Jennings and insisted that he'll let his two quarterbacks battle it out before the first game.

Miles said that for the first few days of practice where the veterans and newcomers are split, he'll split up Harris and Jennings to get them more reps and test them under fire.

Miles joked about incoming Freshman running back and National Player of the Year Leonard Fournette needing to be All-World.

"He does not have to be All-World tomorrow," said Coach Miles. "OK? Uh, just by the first game."

Miles also commented on the recent arrests of two Freshman linemen, including Plaquemine's Davon Godchaux, who's accused of criminal mischief for throwing fireworks into a West Campus apartment that started a fire, and Trey Lealaimatafao, who was arrested the same day for theft of a bicycle.

"They are both responsible to a team and their families and they're going to do things that are right and be held accountable," said Miles.

Miles didn't go into detail but did say Lealaimatafao probably won't play this year after cutting his arm punching through a window in LSU's weight room. Miles said all the players who've been in trouble off the field will be held accountable, and specifically addressed the situation with suspended cornerback Jalen Mills, who faces a battery charge.

"I'm told everything's pretty positive," said Miles. "It's a very unfortunate situation. Somebody came to his apartment and pursued him. Again it's certainly unfortunate by both ends. We'll have to see how it turns out."
