Bailey blanks Tribe as Reds win the Ohio Cup

Homer Bailey pitched seven innings of scoreless baseball and survived a line drive to the face in the Reds 4-0 win over the Indians Thursday.

Cincinnati outscored Cleveland 21-5 in the final three games of the series to win the battle for the Ohio Cup.

With the Reds leading 3-0 in the fifth, Bailey had a scary moment when a hard liner was sent right back to his face. Bailey was able to avoid any injury and laughed about it with reporters after the game.

"It kind of got me in the jaw, but hell, I've been bit worse by bed bugs down in Saltillo [Mexico]," said Bailey.

Bailey picked up his ninth win on just four hits, eight strikeouts and zero earned runs. He got a little help from his friends at the plate. Jay Bruce, Ryan Ludwick, Billy Hamilton and Kris Negron each drove in a run. Negron won the Ohio Cup MVP after going 2-for-4 Thursday. He drove in five runs over the last three games in the series.

"We've been hitting the ball well the last couple of days and like I said, I just try to get them back in the dugout and let them do their thing," said Bailey. "So, tonight and this whole series has been really good for all of us."

Homer has given up just 12 hits and two earned runs in his last three starts (22 innings pitched). The Reds are now four games out of first place in the NL Central and three games out of a Wild Card spot.
