Infant hospitalized after near-drowning incident

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

A 1-year-old girl is in stable condition after nearly drowning in a Liberty Township home on Sunday.

The Butler County Sheriff's Office says the child fell head first into a container of water around 11 a.m. while alone in a bathroom.

The mother, 33-year-old Riddhi Patel, was reportedly tending to another child at the time and walked into the bathroom to find the infant face-down in the container.

Investigators say she had been away for four to five minutes before finding the infant.

Patel immediately called 911 and followed the emergency dispatcher's CPR instructions, according to police. The infant was revived but had shallow breathing when first responders arrived.

She was transported to Cincinnati Children's Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.

Investigators with the Butler County Sheriff's Office say they are continuing to look into the incident.
