VEVAY, IN (FOX19) -

Switzerland County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash reported just after midnight Saturday in Vevay, Indiana.

Authorities said Robert Lee Campbell, 49, of Moores Hill, was driving eastbound on State Road 156 when his vehicle went off the right side of the road. Campbell swerved the opposite direction and over-corrected, officials said.

The vehicle slid sideways across the roadway before hitting an embankment, overturning and landing into a tree. It happened about 700 feet east of Hunts Creek Road, officials said.

Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Switzerland County Coroner's Office. He was the only person in the vehicle.

Investigators said speed and alcohol were believed to be factors in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Switzerland County Sheriff's Office at (812) 427-3636.
