BUTLER COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

In hopes of averting a Monday strike by members of the Butler County Children's Services Independent Union, Butler County representatives will meet with union representatives along with a federal mediator this weekend.

Butler County and the Independent Union will meet Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

After more than a year of negotiations , Butler Count submitted what it termed its "final" offer on Wednesday. Representation from the union did not accept the offer, prompting the county to continue preparations for the threatened strike on Monday.

"We are interested in settling this matter for the sake of the children whose safety depends the Butler County Children Services Department," said Charles Young, county administrator in the press release. "However, there is a limit to what the county can offer, especially in light of agreements already completed with the county's ten other bargaining units."

Butler County has begun hiring workers to fill 20 permanent and 40 temporary positions.

"We are doing all we can to provide relief to those concerned about their work load, but that leaves even less money available for additional economic offerings to avert the strike," said Young.
