Thousands in Atlanta rally in solidarity with Missouri protesters

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Thousands of protesters in Atlanta, fed up with what they say is racially motivated police brutality, rallied in solidarity with the people of Ferguson, MO.

A brief, but strong downpour fell, but it did not dampen the protesters' passion.

Some carried signs that read "black bodies should not be police targets," others held placards that read "unite against racism," as demonstrators chanted "no justice, no peace" as they marched through downtown Atlanta.

People in Missouri have protested for more than a week after a white police officer shot and killed an unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown, after an altercation.

Parents brought their children. Some demonstrators wore caps and gowns to symbolize Brown's ambition to go to college and protestors from diverse backgrounds marched in solidarity.

Many are frustrated with a largely white police force that protesters said has intimidated their community, comprised mostly of people of color.

Isaac Taggart said he is just as frustrated.

It is "imperative to just stand up against anything that's unjust, against violence in particular," Taggart said.

"People put their foot down and said enough is enough," said Brent Clower, who is angered by what he believes is unequal justice. "This is the absolute least we could do to come out and show the people of Ferguson we support them."

Unlike some of instances of violence after the protests in Missouri, Monday night's rally in Atlanta was non-violent.
