Rockefeller Center Tree

Olympians on hand for annual tree lighting at NYC's Rockefeller Center

Manhattan is 30-thousand-lights brighter. New York's Christmas tree is aglow at the Rockefeller Center. It's a 71-foot-tall Norway spruce topped by a nine-foot star covered with 25-thousand crystals. Three Olympic gold winners -- ice skater Sarah Hughes and gymnasts Paul Hamm (hahm) and Carly Patterson -- joined Mayor Michael Bloomberg to light the tree at the annual ceremony. The festivities also included musical performances by Jessica Simpson, Hilary Duff, Clay Aiken, Chris Isaak and Vanessa Williams. Also on hand were the Radio City Rockettes and the band Chicago. With temperatures in the 40s, thousands of people stood bundled inside police barricades for the ceremony.
