AVONDALE, OH (FOX19) -

Street crews have finished repairing a massive sinkhole that formed last June in Avondale, the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati (MSD) announced Thursday.

The sewer line, which is nearly a century old, collapsed under the intersection of Shields and Vine streets (map). A Metro bus drove over the buckled area and caused the sinkhole to open up, leaving the road closed for more than a month.

MSD crews replaced the collapsed section of the pipe, and the entire sewer segment was rehabilitated with retaining walls and structural metal "ribs."

MSD said the pavement was restored on both Shields Street and East Shields Street.

All lanes are back open to traffic.
