OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) -
Cincinnati Fire Department officials said an industrial coffee roaster inside Coffee Emporium led to a large amount of smoke billowing from an Over-the-Rhine building.
Crews responded just before 1:30 p.m. Thursday to the Emery Center building, located at the intersection of Central Parkway and Walnut Street. Smoke was spotted coming from the building throughout the downtown area.
Authorities at the scene said the smoke was caused by excess coffee build up inside the roaster machine's ventilation unit. Fire crews said the build up led to flames inside the roaster pipe and smoke to billow above the building.
The fire chief reported the initial 911 call came from
inside the Kroger building, which is located near the Emery Center building.
The building houses Coffee Emporium, as well as several apartment units.
