Bengals beat Cardinals with help from Carson Palmer

Terence Newman returned a Carson Palmer interception for a touchdown and the Bengals won for the first time in the preseason 19-13.

Playing for just the second time against his former team, Palmer completed 7-19 passes for 92 yards and an interception. Andy Dalton played the entire first half and finished with 157 yards passing. Neither quarterback threw a touchdown pass.

Mohamed Sanu continued his strong preseason play with five catches and 70 yards. A.J. Green also had five receptions for 53 yards.

Geno Atkins played for the first time this preseason. The Pro Bowl defensive tackle is coming back from a torn ACL.

The Bengals did lose a few players to injury. Rookie wide receiver James Wright hit his head hard on the ground while attempting to catch a pass. He stayed on the ground for several minutes before he left on a cart with a concussion. Linemen Trey Hopkins and T.J. Johnson each left the game on carts as well.

Vontaze Burfict had his night cut short because of a minor hamstring injury. Marvin Lewis announced after the game Burfict will be ready for the season opener in two weeks at Baltimore.

The Bengals finish the preseason Thursday night against the Indianapolis Colts at Paul Brown Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7pm.
