WHITEWATER TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Helicopters units rescued two men Monday morning after they spent 12 hours lost in woods near the Great Miami River.
Barry Werning, 58, and Dan Adams, 56, were fishing Sunday in the Great Miami River before taking a walk through the woods of Whitewater Township, according to officials.
The men reportedly got lost and collapsed of exhaustion and dehydration six hours later.
Hamilton County Sheriff's Office with officials from Miami and Whitewater townships launched a rescue effort by ground, water and air on Monday morning.
Authorities say a helicopter unit spotted Werning and Adams around 9 a.m. about 100 yards off the river bank. Officials described both men as "in distress."
When rescue boats were unable to reach them, the helicopter landed on the banks of the Great Miami River and individually flew each man to a landing zone where paramedics were on hand.
Werning and Adams were transferred to Mercy West Hospital where they are listed in fair condition.
