A Hamilton woman has been charged with vehicular homicide after her SUV hit an oncoming motorcycle, resulting in the death of a passenger.

The accident happened just after 2:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Ludlow Street in Hamilton. Authorities said Merced Garcia, 37, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee and turned into the path of an oncoming motorcycle, failing to yield as she turned left.

David McDaniel, 64, of Mount Airy, was on the motorcycle with his wife, Delilah, as a passenger.

Hamilton police said both were immediately taken to Fort Hamilton Hospital, however Delilah McDaniel was transferred to a Dayton area hospital due to the severity of her injuries.

Authorities said she died Saturday night while in surgery.

In addition to vehicular homicide, Garcia was also charged for driving without a driver's license. She is being held at the Butler County Jail.

On Tuesday, Garcia made her first appearance in Hamilton Municipal Court.
