Hamilton Co. deputy injured in crash, alcohol or drugs believed to be factor

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy was injured in a crash early Sunday morning in Anderson Township.

The crash happened in the 3800 block of Mt. Carmel Road around 3 a.m.

According to the Sheriff's office, Deputy Andrew Helsinger was hit by a jeep driven by 26-year-old Chelsea Obermeyer of Batavia.

Police say Obermeyer failed to maintain control as she went around a curve, striking the side of Deputy Helsinger's police cruiser and entrapping him inside the car.

Obermeyer's Jeep then continued out of control and came to rest against a guardrail. The passenger in Obermeyer's car, 25-year-old Jessica Gliszczynski, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Mercy Anderson Hospital.

The Anderson Township Fire Department mechanically extricated Deputy Helsinger from his cruiser. He was transported to University of Cincinnati Hospital Medical Center and his is listed in good condition.

Alcohol or drugs are believed to be a factor. The crash is under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Traffic Safety Unit.
