Two of the top teams in the Tri-State will meet on one field Friday night when Lakota West travels to Price Hill for Elder's home opener at The Pit.

Both teams won their respective openers with Elder beating rival Oak Hills and Lakota West winning the most exciting local game in the first week of the season over defending state champion Loveland 49-46.

West linebacker C.J. Stalker stopped Loveland quarterback Drew Plitt on the two yard line as time expired to preserve the Firebirds' season opening win. West quarterback Blake Darland threw for 356 yards and five touchdowns in his first varsity start.

Elder had to wait out a 75 minute rain delay to start their season against Oak Hills, but looked sharp in their first meeting with the Highlanders in six years. Panthers running back Ja-Vahri Portis led Elder with 99 yards rushing and two touchdowns in Elder's 34-6 win.

Elder will play seven of its next nine games on its intimidating home field.
