Beechwood Wins State Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Beechwood has defeated Danville 23-to-7 for the championship of Kentucky Class One-A high school football. Dustin Menetrey rushed for 187 yards and forced a fourth-quarter fumble to lead Beechwood to victory.

Patrick Muth threw two touchdown passes to Eric Sawyer, rushed for a third T-D and kicked a field goal for Beechwood (14-1), which avenged a 42-to-7 loss to Danville in last year's title game. Beechwood finishes 14-and-one, while Danville's record is ten-and-five.

The Tigers captured the school's ninth state title - its first since 1999 - and atoned for losses in the last two One-A championships. Danville averaged 321 yards rushing during the regular season, but mustered only 158 total yards against the Tigers. Mr. Football finalist Kelvin Turner was held to 76 yards on 18 carries for the Admirals, who had won three of the last four One-A crowns.
