LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Running back James Hubbard set up his decisive touchdown by throwing a 61-yard pass as Fort Thomas Highlands beat Boyle County 22-to-6 today in the Class 3-A high school football championship game.
Highlands won its state-record 16th state championship, breaking a tie with Louisville Trinity. The game ended Boyle County's state-record run of five straight championships - two in Class 2-A, three in Class 3-A. As they had earlier this season in a 21-to-0 win over Boyle County, the Bluebirds dominated defensively.
A Boyle County fumble in the third quarter led to the third field goal by Highlands' Justin Auton. Highlands sealed the win on a 5-yard touchdown run by Jordan Kramer.
