A higher-than-normal amount of patients with respiratory illness has prompted Cincinnati Children's Hospital to place restrictions on who can visit.

The restrictions are a precautionary measure in response to the up tick in cases of children with respiratory illnesses recently. While Children's said they have documented enterovirus in some patients, they have not yet determined whether it is the EV-D68 strain that has infected children across the nation.

Respiratory viruses are easily transmitted so the hospital hopes this action - taken by other hospitals across the country - will help curb the virus' spread.

Visitors coming to the Burnet Avenue, the College Hill and Liberty Township campuses are being asked to only come if they are healthy, free from fevers, cough, colds or stomach virus symptoms. No visitors under the age of 14 will be allowed except siblings, while only parents and guardians may visit the critical care areas.
