JACKSON TWP, OH (FOX19) -

A Jackson Township firefighter was airlifted to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries following an accident that overturned his fire engine.

The unidentified firefighter was traveling alone in the truck eastbound on Jackson Pike around 10:30 a.m. Monday morning. After moving over to avoid an oncoming car in the westbound lane, he lost control of the truck, sending it on to its side.

The department said the firefighter was returning from a training session and was traveling on Jackson Pike because U.S. Route 50 was closed. They prefer to not use that road because it is narrow for a fire truck.

An official on-scene said a replacement truck could cost an estimated $400,000.
