New Miami teacher under investigation for relationship with student

A New Miami High School teacher is on paid administrative leave and the Butler County Sheriff's Office says they are investigating an inappropriate relationship with a student.

A letter went home with New Miami students Thursday explaining to parents a teacher had been a suspended and an investigation is underway.

"From the information we received from the staff, we turned that over to our butler county sheriff's department who is currently doing an investigation and we will know more once we hear from them," said Superintendent Patricia Blake.

Blake says staff members reported the conduct on Monday. The teacher who has not been charged was put on administrative leave Tuesday. The school board approved the suspension Wednesday and now the sheriff's office says they are investigating allegations of an inappropriate relationship.

"I'm surprised hearing this. Nothing like this ever happens out here. It's just you hear about everywhere else," said a parent, Jim Bedinghaus.

Blake says despite the allegations, she is assuring parents their children are safe.

"Our goal is just to keep our staff and our community informed and they should know that today at New Miami kids are learning, teachers are teaching and we're going to move forward," said Blake.

Right now, no charges have been filed in this case but the district says the teacher will remain on administrative leave until the investigation is complete.
