Both Parties Backing New Bill

Senators from both parties backing new intelligence bill

The top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee says he hopes a new bill will "change the intelligence system and head it in the right direction."

Jay Rockefeller tells CBS he believes the compromise measure will pass in both houses. The senator from West Virginia says intelligence agencies haven't been updated from the "Cold War model." The legislation would install a national intelligence director. The chief Republican negotiator on the bill tells CBS whoever fills the post would be "accountable." Senator Susan Collins says "We've lacked that in the current system." GOP lawmakers are meeting later this morning to discuss the compromise bill.
