CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A man serving life in prison for murder was found dead in the Hamilton County Jail early Wednesday morning.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, 50-year-old Daniel Davis was found dead around 5:30 a.m. during a routine check. At this time officials are saying there are no signs of foul play.
"We did not find a noose, we did not find anything that was suggestive or would lead us to think that there was suicide involved. We do not know the cause of death," said Major Charmaine McGuffe.
Davis was convicted for the murder of 79-year-old East Price Hill man John Lauck. He was in the Hamilton County Jail while waiting to be transferred to a state prison.
He was indicted on two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, one count of aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated burglary for his death. Prosecutors said he was considered a repeat offender because he was convicted of rape in 1986.
According to the Hamilton County Prosecutor, Davis and Lauck knew each other for several weeks before the murder. Lauck had hired Davis to perform odd jobs around his home. On the day of the murder, Aug. 19, 2012, investigators believe Davis went to Lauck's home in order to rob him for money to support his heroin addiction.
One of Lauck's children found him dead in his home. The coroner said he died from stab wounds to the neck and chest as well as strangulation.
Prosecutors were previously seeking the death penalty, but jurors decided on life without parole on Sept. 12. He is the fourth inmate to die in the Hamilton County Jail this year.
