32-year-old Hamilton Co. sheriff's deputy dies from medical emergency

HAMILTON COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

A Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy passed away Saturday from an unknown medical emergency.

According to officials, Colerain Township fire and EMS was dispatched to Deputy Nick Hoevel's home Saturday for a medical emergency. He passed away shortly after arriving at the Mercy Hospital Fairfield emergency room. It is unknown at the time what caused his death.

Deputy Hoevel was an 11-year veteran of the Sheriff's Office and was also assigned as an enforcement officer in Columbia Township.

He earned several awards from the Village of Mariemont, the Hamilton County Commissioners and the Cincinnati Citizen's Police for heroically saving a swimmer in the Little Miami River last year.

Deputy Hoevel is leaving behind a wife and three young children, the youngest of which is only five months old.

A GoFundMe page has been created in his honor. As of Sunday afternoon, it has raised more than $5,300.
