CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A man allegedly lured a child into an Evanston apartment complex laundry room Sunday and tried to sexually assault her.

It happened in the 3100 block of Durrell Avenue.

Neighbors said they heard some kind of commotion inside their apartment complex laundry room Sunday afternoon and, moments later, a young mother chasing a man down the street with knives in her hand.

According to police records, 28-year-old Terry Johnson was charged with attempted rape for the incident.

Neighbor Carolyn Childers said her granddaughter was playing with a group of young girls when Johnson asked one of the girls for her name. When she told him, Johnson said her mother was looking for her. Neighbors said he then took the girl into the laundry room and allegedly assaulted her.

"Her shoes are still in the laundry mat where he lifted her up out of her shoes," said Childers.

Neighbors said the 7-year-old girl's mother heard the struggle and ran him out of the building catching him a few yards away where she waited for police.

"He would have been buried right there if it was my grandchild right here. Anybody think they want to come try to get a child on Durrell avenue just know eyes are on you," said Childers.
