PENDLETON COUNTY, KY (FOX19) -

A mother and son who were reported missing in Pendleton County were found Wednesday morning in their crashed SUV.

35-year-old Teresa Rick and her 8-year-old son Jake Locknane were reported missing Tuesday night and hadn't been seen since around 10 p.m.

The SUV was found crashed in a creek around 7 a.m. off of Wright Road. According to police, Rick swerved to avoid a deer and ended up falling into a ravine.

Rick was flown by medical helicopter to University of Cincinnati Medical Center with a broken leg. Jake was take to Cincinnati Children's by ground ambulance for minor injuries. Authorities say both are expected to recover.

Rick works as an Emergency Dispatcher, and her colleagues said receiving her missing person report was especially personal.

"It was a kick in the gut there for a little bit but you know that you have to do whatever you can to help her out," said Mike Moore, Pendleton County's Director of Emergency Response. He has worked with Rick for years and says her training as a 911 dispatcher help keep her alive.

"She had the presence of mind to crawl over the console and lay back the passenger seat and lay on the flat of her back and put her son on top of her to keep the body heat," he said.

Rick told police she tried to call 911 but couldn't because of poor cell service.
