CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
A new facility in Cincinnati will allow temporarily homeless families to stay connected their four-legged friends.
The program PetSmart Promise is a collaboration between PetSmart and Family Promise. Family Promise is an organization that strives to help homeless families achieve independence.
PetSmart Promise has provided a new dog and cat facility for the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Cincinnati day center for temporarily homeless families. Since many homeless shelters do not allow animals, families are often separated from their pets.
The program hopes that the facility will provide pets with a safe place to call home during the family's transition.
The Cincinnati facility is one of five opening this year. Other cities opening a location this year include Akron, Ohio, Montgomery, Ala., Morristown N. J. and Wasilla, Alaska. The grand opening is Oct. 9.
