CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati firefighters were called to a 2-alarm fire at UC Medical Center Thursday morning.
The fire broke out in the basement just before 8:30 a.m.
Fire crews contained and quickly extinguished the fire by 8:45 a.m. Firefighters are using large fans to evacuate some lingering smoke.
Firefighters say that smoke filled the building which caused the problems.
A large quantity of filers caught fire. Firefighters were able to put them out but smoke got into the HVAC system and spread throughout all nine floor, according to authorities.
Authorities say one of the HVAC people tried to put the fire out himself before crews got to the scene. That man was injured and treated at UC Medical Center.
People and staff members were evacuated from the hospital. No other injuries have reported.
Patients were moved to a different location on the upper levels of the hospital and will be returned once heir rooms are cleared of smoke.
Operations will be back to normal once the fire department concludes and assess any restoration needs.
