Gunman kills four at rock show before being shot, killed by police

Columbus police say they may never know why a man opened fire at a heavy metal concert last night, killing four people and wounding two others before he was shot and killed by police.

Sergeant Brent Mull says unless 25-year-old Nathan Gale of Marysville left a note, there may be no way to know his motive. Police say Gale ran on stage and starting shooting at musicians and the crowd during a show by the band Damageplan. Among the dead is 38-year-old guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, who also played with the heavy metal band Pantera. Witnesses say the gunman came on stage and shot Abbott several times at point-blank range. Several say they thought it was part of the show at first.

Police say an officer who was nearby responded to the report of a shooting, saw one man dead and the gunman holding another person. The officer then shot and killed him.
