FOX19 - On another bad night for the UC defense, Gunner Kiel wasn't available to help bail the Bearcats out in a 41-14 loss to Memphis.
Kiel was injured attempting to throw a desperation pass as time expired in the first half. A Memphis defender hit Kiel in the ribs as he finished his follow through. UC head coach Tommy Tuberville said after the game they didn't yet know the extent of the injury, but added Kiel would likely “be out awhile.”
The UC defense allowed more than 600 yards of offense for a second straight week and have given up more than 1,300 yards of total offense and 91 points in back-to-back losses after winning the season's first two games.
"My goodness, we can't stop anybody,” said Tuberville. “We've got a lot of work to do, obviously, we haven't stopped anybody. This is not new now. We can go out there and blitz every down, but we're not going to do that…our secondary isn't strong enough to do that. Only thing we can do is trying to get better at technique because the teams get tougher as we go."
UC drops its season record to 2-2.
The Bearcats play at Miami (FL) next Saturday at noon.
