WARREN COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - 19-year-old Austin Myers was recommended the death penalty by jurors Monday night after being found guilty of multiple charges including the aggravated murder and kidnapping of Justin Back in January of this year.
Myers would be the youngest death row inmate in Ohio, according to the Dayton Daily News.
On Monday, Myers spoke for the first time before jurors made the decision to sentence him to death.
"If you choose for me to die, it's only going to cause more pain and suffering for another family," Myers said to the jury that found him guilty last week of charges including aggravated murder and kidnapping.
In his statement, Myers apologized to Justin Back's family. Myers killed Back, a Navy-recruit, in his Waynesville home in January then dumped the body in Preble County.
"I'm asking you not to do this, to my brothers and my sisters," Myers said to jurors after naming each of his siblings and parents.
Myers will officially be sentenced Oct. 16
